As we’ve already discussed, there is nothing that makes anyone in the working world different from your garden variety prostitute. However, the office worker is particularly prone to this comparison because of how willingly he uses his talents for financial gain.
Rather than check out of conventional life and evade the use of money (it’s called Cast Away), he prefers to feel just miserable enough to survive on the amount he’s given by the corporation–in essence, his pimp. And then, when he gets too old to be worth anything, he’ll be cast out, just like a whore. Made to feel old and dried up, of no use anymore, he’ll be sent on his way, the best years of his life given to an entity that never really cared about him.
