You Should Just…

When expressing discontent or dissatisfaction with one’s life, it seems that there’s no shortage of people who come out of the woodwork to tell you what you can and should do to improve your life and yourself. “Volunteer,” “get a dog,” “do something that takes you outside of yourself.” As though getting outside of the self is the very thing that can bring you happiness a.k.a. it’s just that despicable to experience the solipsism of your perspective and personality.

But what if you’re seeking the simple ability to live your day to day without thinking about money or how you can “turn your passion into a profession”? Is there no option for the office worker who simply wants the freedom to flit about the continents in order to experience as much as possible before your heart combusts from being broken so many times anyway (whether love or soul selling-related)? No, the only choice, according to everyone around you, is that you should just blah blah blah. All suggestions that are intended to make you forget the glaring fact that this whole life/capitalism thing is rigged to make you miserable no matter what advice you take.
