This Is America. Pick A Job and Become The Person That Does It.

Bobbie Barrett (Melinda McGraw) of Mad Men season two fame may not have been good for much other than making Don Draper (Jon Hamm) feel like a rent boy, getting him in a car accident and causing the final nail to be hammered into the coffin of his marriage with Betty (January Jones).

But she was good for elucidating the naive optimism of 60s America that continues to pervade some of the more delusional ilk in Midtown. By describing her skills for negotiating to Don and how she used them to become her husband’s manager, Bobbie came up with the distinct aphorism, “This is America. Pick a job and then become the person that does it.” Unfortunately, there are currently no openings for a job in the professional vacationing field. Especially with the travel writing business being as defunct as it is and Anthony Bourdain having the monopoly on all things related to leisure.
