Every Midtown Worker Is the Falling Man in the Intro to Mad Men

The symbolism of the falling man during the intro credits to Mad Men, paired with its dramatic theme song, evoke a strong representation of your average Midtown worker. Like the faceless silhouette of the suited figure, we’re all just drowning in a sea of the things and material we’re supposed to want–paired with the crushing responsibilities that come with wanting them.

This, in addition to the pressures of Midtown office life, can lead to 1) an intensely overwhelming feeling that you’re spiraling into a consumeristic abyss and 2) that you want to, quite simply, jump right out the building to your concrete demise in order to escape it all.
