The NYC and United States working culture is merciful in very few things. But actually granting New Year’s Day off is one of them. After an intense night of purging yourself of all the mistakes you’ve made in the past year, it’s important to use the first day of the new year as a means to detox/lie to yourself about having a sober January.
And so, while you normally curse having a job, New Year’s Day is one of the few moments of the year where you, as an office worker, are grateful for having a paid day off instead of being one of those people who has to work in a store or something. Naturally, that gratitude is quickly negated when you have to return to work on Friday the 2nd.
