Work Is A Battlefield

Heath Ledger’s incarnation of The Joker once said, “I believe whatever doesn’t kill you simply makes you…stranger.” This aphorism goes tenfold for working with others in an office whilst pretending that they’re not steadily chipping away at your will to resist total mental and aspirational apathy. Not only must you suppress your true emotions in front of your boss, but also those you work “closely” with.

The reason for this being, of course, that they could betray you at a moment’s notice, fuck with your psyche until you have no idea what or who to trust anymore. Those who exist in the office realm tend to be heavily invested in the chess-like nature of knocking away anyone they see as a pawn, and not a king or a queen. And because you’re just showing up for the paycheck, you’re likely to become a part of the crossfire on the metaphorical board, joining a battlefield you never asked to be a part of.
