My How The Job Title Landscape Has Changed

It used to be that the umbrella of “HR” was enough to cover the gamut of issues and dramas in the workplace. But, just like Christmas parties, the era of post-#MeToo has changed many facets of the working world, not least of which includes the titles that populate job boards. Among such cherries in the re-envisioned version of workplace usefulness is “Sexual Assault Response Coordinator.”

Available at such male-dominated institutions where witnessing chauvinism is simply a way of life (e.g. the Navy), the responsibilities of this position require, ironically, the lack of empathy that is key to objectivity and “organization.” Though the establishments that do offer this type of employment are generally for outreach in the community purposes, it seems likely that, over time, the moniker might need to be specifically for “in-house” instances. Because we all know the male hand (at least the type of male hand that has a cufflink attached to its sleeve) is controlled by an unseen force called Dick. So yes, in addition to such other novel titles as “Millennial Generational Expert” and “User Experience Manager” (which somehow conjures images of that Black Mirror episode where Jesse Plemons is a little asshole), it seems that Sexual Assault Response Coordinator is both retro and futuristic in its implications. For it’s true, HR is also ineffective in doing much of anything in this regard other than passing out a handbook/making people watch a video that office workers look to as an inspiration rather than a source of being a scare tactic to keep one’s limbs to himself. Or, these gender fluid, female-dominated workforce days, herself.
