Lana Del Rey is responsible for speaking to many people with a goth sensibility, but what she’s perhaps unaware of is how succinct her message is to the office worker set–relegated to being “paid tribute to” by management, yet knowing full well not to buy into the bullshit.
As the days wear on, populated by sitting there and staring blankly at a screen, the office worker begins to think just like the pent up woman from the “High by the Beach” video. But at least that woman is trapped in a beach house and makes money for being famous, as opposed to the office worker, who is trapped in a chair and makes money off his insignificance. He will, alas, come to the conclusion, “I can’t survive if this is all that’s real.”
