Feeding On Your Misery

A lot of people ask why one doesn’t change his situation if he’s so damn miserable being stuck at a thankless, dead-end job. “Nothing has to be permanent,” they’ll say. “You have other options,” they insist. What they don’t seem to understand is that you’ve got mad bills to pay and basic luxury needs to meet.

But the motive for resisting change goes far beyond this. There is something even more sinister underlying one’s adamancy about continuing to do something he hates. It’s about feeding on misery, which can work as a drug to keep one going. Plus, there’s nothing inspiring about happiness.
