Many office workers, especially the mid-tier businessman, like to believe they hold a special place in the company’s heart. It’s hard for them to recognize that they, like the facsimiles they sometimes have to generate, are just as disposable and re-creatable. And yes, in the corporate office world, it’s still the 1980s, so having to make copies and fax documents continues to exist.
You can be turned out, used up and thrown away just as quickly as a facsimile, without the company so much as giving it a second thought. But it’s okay. You can take comfort in the beauty of your insignificance, using it to justify your every moment of non-productivity. After all, if you don’t matter, neither does how you occupy your time while within the confines of the office walls.
