“Criminal”: The Song That Plays In Your Mind Every Time You Step Out For Your Lunch Break

New York culture doesn’t understand what a slow pace means. That’s not the sort of tempo it can move to. The freneticism and stress that characterizes it is what ends up pulling so many people to its energetic aura. This is all very lovely, until you’re trying to step out for a goddamn lunch break and you feel like a criminal for taking time out for you.

Luckily, you can mentally play Fiona Apple’s “Criminal” in your head as you do so in order to better soothe yourself into taking the time you need for yourself/your mental well-being. While leaving the building for a half hour is brazen, a full hour is absolutely–that’s right–criminal. Hence, this 90s gem of a track is soon to become any office renegade’s anthem. Minus the part where the office is all you ever knew of love.
